Wozniacki Sails in Seoul

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki, playing in her first tournament since dropping outside the top 10 to 11, has won her 1st title of the year. She trounced 3rd seed, world number 16 Kanepi 61 60! The ease of the result seems surprising as Caroline lost her last meeting with the Estonian at the French Open and hadn't won a title since New Haven last summer! However, as she states, she turned defence into offence and vice verse to dominate her opponent. Still, it was a great week for Kanepi, who was playing her first tournament in 4 months, having been out with a bilateral Achilles injury!

Robson's Run Ended

Unfortunately from a British perspective, Laura Robson was beaten in the final of Guangzhou 63 57 64 by Hseih Su Wei. Laura fought gamely to stay in the match, recovering from 36 35 down and 5 match points in the 2nd set, to lead 3-0 in the 3rd. However, a lack of experience combined with a lack of energy saw Robson's bid to become the 1st British woman to win a WTA title in 22 years, come to an end. Robson was full of praise for her unorthodox opponent who, as predicted, mixed up the rhythm and kept Laura guessing. Next time Laura!

Robson Into Final

From a British perspective, this is a landmark week for Laura Robson as she's made the Guangzhou final. In beating Sorana Cirstea 64 63, Robson has become the 1st British woman to reach a WTA final since Jo Durie in Newport, 1990. If she can beat Hseih Su Wei in the final, she'll become the 1st to win a title since Sara Gomer at Aptos, 1988! Come on Laura!
